This game kinda reminds me of the arcade version of Castlevania, Huge characters (for a SNES platformer), frustrating level design, and UNFORGIVING enemies make this game a true challenge.
I like the quirky little tricks you can do with Simon's whip, like using it as a whirling shield to kill those annoying medusa heads, or using it to do an impressive Tarzan impersonation.
The music is great in this game, too. Even after playing all of the later sequels, I still catch myself humming some of he tunes from this particular game. The remixed renditions of the original two Castlevania themes were really well done. The only versions I liked better were when The Dracula X Chronicles came out. Bloody Tears (Castlevania II's theme) is so awesome, I immediately downloaded it.
Would I recommend this game? Heck yea! Would I say it's the best of the series? Not especially, but it is a great chapter in the story that is Castlevania.
