A frantic yet addictive bullet hell shooter developed by none other than Cave. The simple art style is reminiscent of Range Murata's work. It captures an alternative World War II-era feel marked by a wide range of spectacular aircrafts and machinery, and the vibrant environments are pre-rendered and well-animated.
As expected from a Cave shooter, the game is also quite difficult, although it is easier to get into than, says, ESPgaluda. The system's depth comes not just from learning how to avoid bullets, but figuring out which combination of pilot and co-pilot works for you, the mechanics behind Bombs, and differentiating between holding down the Attack button and using Rapid Fire.
It takes two full completions of the game to actually finish the whole deal, and the difficulty just ramps up with every stage. But Progear is worth experiencing for the high-octane action, sharp controls, enveloping sound work, and the showcase of the CPS-2's capabilities. The game packs A LOT of bang in 13MB.
