This is by far the best and first beast game in the trilogy
Shadow of the Beast has a beast-man named Aarbron who was kidnapped as a child and corrupted through magic into a beast like warrior-servant for the evil beast lord Maletoth. The beast's memory of his past human life returns when he watches a man being executed, whom he later recognizes as his father. This makes Aarbron want to seek revenge on Maletoth.
A number of puzzles are offered, and there is only one attempt before the game would kill the player. Many players had to cheat to get through. The game is very difficult; with no continuing available; and with apparently rather little or no thought at all for the actual player.
