Best of the MS Series! by mvanarey on February 26, 2011
Font memories of playing this game in arcade shops during out Christmas camping holidays as a child. While it doesn't contain as much variety of vehicles you can take in later Metal Slug's, I consider it the base plate for all Metal Slug games since.

I remember camping when I was a kid and they had this little arcade. And my buddy twisted my arm to play this game with him. And afterwards I fell in love. The metal slug series has always been beyond it's time. Metal Slug is a fast paced side scrolling shooter that has amazing 2d graphics. It's also a satirical approach at other sidescrolling shooters like contra amongst other pop culture references. Trust me, try this game, you won't be disappointed.
Best Metal Slug ever made ! by KeitaroBaka on August 11, 2009

Metal Slug is a relly good series as a whole. But if you had to play only one Metal Slug game, that would be Metal Slug 3 ! It's hard, it's beautiful, and it has multiple paths to go through. Wan't to go underwater with a submarine ? ok ! Or do you prefer the pyramid ? ok ! You can choose !

The gameplay is nervous and a slight mistake will kill you. But hey, it's metal slug ! Graphics are beautiful, maybe in the best in 2D games ever made.

This game is a must play. Enjoy it and replay it !

I played this series since 1996, I was attracted by its unique style: everything looks funny, I can't stop laughing when I first play it. Then, in 1998, the sequel came out, the only word I could say is "wow!" The more funny stage design, the better control, and new vehicles.

Now I'll say sth about MS3, it's much harder then 1, 2, and X, but makes me feel much more fun. The branch path system made the player want to play more times. "What will happen if I go this path?" I thought it many times when I first play it.

The music is also outstanding. It contains the series' tradional music like "Assault Theme" and "Final Attack". And other new music. My favorate one is "Japanese Soilder", the WWII Japanese style.

Anyway if you like run and gun game, Metal Slug 3 is a good choice for you.

The second best arcade game of all time by buda3d2003 on October 26, 2008

this is second to dungeons and dragons shadows of mysteria for detail and depth in a coin operated originating game (on my all time list).

as far as arcade games go this one has so much depth to it and detail that I think it beats both it prequels and squeals, if you have not played this game then were have you been in the arcade scene.

final note: if you want tips on how to play this, there are some insane vids on youtube that give you the complete 27 part walk through, the guys must have spent a whole day putting the video together worth a watch for someone looking to master this masterpiece. 10/10

By far the best Metal Slug out there by thehelios on September 23, 2008

I can't begin telling you how this version of Metal Slug dominates the previous 3 iterations. Not only offering a somewhat non-linear style of play by offering "seperate routes in seperate levels", it offers all the previous vehicles and weapons we have come to love but even more.

The Slow down problems seen in MS 2 and rarely in MS X are now gone. The difficulty has for sure been raised but offers for greater gameplay. This is a must have if you are a platform shooter fan.

A Revolution In Gaming by SteveTheWraith on August 12, 2008
Probably one of the most important series of its time, Metal Slug was a genre-defining masterpiece. Incorporating the best elements of predecessors such as Contra and expanding on them (with features such as the melee attack, quirky gameplay elements like being temporarily turned into a zombie with corresponding special abilities, and loads of other features) the Metal Slug series brought the world of side-scrolling shooters -- and the world of video games in general -- to a whole new level.
