Great game, but insanely difficult by shinkuu_gadoken on August 15, 2008 Pulstar is a side-scrolling shoot-em-up bringing several awesome features to the table. You got your basic option-esque shield that protects you from basic enemy bullets, as well as varying shot types. Pulstar caters to both methods of mash-shots and charge-shots with a cool charge meter. As you press the button more rapidly, the left side of the meter fills up and extra bullets appear. Hold the button and you get your supershot.
Graphics are pretty amazing for a game of its era, all prerendered beauty. The only gripe I have against this game is the difficulty -- NOT for beginners. Enemies come at you from all angles, you get one hit (or one scrape against a wall), you die and start over at the last checkpoint, and it's gets even harder since you just lost all your powerups.
Anyways, if you think you're up to the challenge, then try this game... I managed to get past the first level without dying. Finally, for those who just suck, the developers added a level choice feature, so you can see what the other levels are like. Just be warned, you'll have next to no firepower then... so your best bet would be to just play through from level one. |
