The BEST of old school by skrlbst on September 5, 2008
I remember playing this is late high school early college and it was so intense. It is truly one of the best old school action games ever. If you have never played it you simply must try it immediately. Even if you have played other versions (NES, PSX Strider 2 or Genesis/Mega Drive Strider 2) you must play the original arcade game. It is fantastic and is extremely intense. I challenge Capcom to make a new version of this for the HD consoles. It was one of the most cinematic games of its time. The graphics are extemely good considering hardware limitations from 1989, same with the sound. Very well composed and engaging music. I will say though, it does seem a little derivative of Star Wars, what with Grandmaster Meio who reminds me of Emperor Palpatine and the bounty hunter in level two who seems like an anime version of Boba Fett. These however are not bad things. I cannot say enough good things about this game. It is one of my favorites of all time.
Taking platforming to the next level by shinkuu_gadoken on August 16, 2008
Strider is one of Capcom's most classic arcade platformers, and if you've never heard of it you're missing out on a ton. You take control of Strider Hiryu, a ninja bent on defeating some evil force. Capcom did a really good job of making it feel like you were controlling a ninja, with somersaults, flips, lightning fast sword slashing, wall climbing, and loads more. The music is fantastic, and grows more intense as you get further in. At first, the game is rather challenging but once you get the hang of the controls the difficulty level becomes just right. Easily can waste hours playing this through and through.
