The intro was SO anime and I had never seen anything like it. I still have fond memories of playing this game to death just for the cutscenes. This game helped launch story-driven games (Metal Gear Solid, Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy et al owe it a debt)and while it can be annoyingly hard at times, it has a style all its own. The difficulty of this one is legendary, as are the first-of-their-kind (in the United States, anyway) cut scenes most of us gamers ever saw. Power-ups galore and frantic, "keep-moving-or-you-die" gameplay make this title one of the most bonafide difficult action games ever. Not a platformer, but a genuine run-and-slice mash-a-thon this game will test your twitch reflexes and determination in the face of umpteen broken NES controllers more than any other game for the system.
