A space ship with feathered wings and feet? Cool! by Paulthelion on October 19, 2008
I like side scrolling shooters (especially R-type) but lets face it, you played one and you played them all for the most part. Just straight forward screen scrolling disabling you from scrolling back from where you came, usually shooting your enemies gives you essential power-ups that but if it floats off the screen you're screwed, and of course the dreaded one hit kill and you lose all your power-ups. Having said that, for once this game offers so much more than your average space shooter. In this game you play as OPA OPA the space vessel saving your realm called Fantasy Zone from evil forces that are out to get you. "Well big deal how is that different from any other space shooter?" Well... First you can actually backtrack in this game. "Excuse me did I hear you right?" Yup you can go anywhere in a level at anytime. This also helps big time when you want to dodge incoming enemies instead of being trapped by them by always being pushed forward like other shooters. You also navigate through warp zones to go back and forth through different parts of the level which is cool. Instead of enemies containing power-ups they all contain money that you can collect to by power-ups and items from stores you can visit during levels. Even though this might not sound like fun it really is and it's another quality that stands out from the rest. As far as the one hit kill section goes there is hope. Even though you can die from one hit you can thankfully upgrade your ship so that it will take the baddies more than one hit to finish you. On top off all that good stuff the graphics are full of beautiful vibrant colors, the gameplay is pretty solid, and all the unique twists in this shooter will keep you coming back for more. Sadly I have yet to play the first one but I hear it's just as good as this one, and if thats true then both of these games are definite must have titles for your SMS library.
