Fantastic Multiplayer Action Game by Valour on March 23, 2012
Rating: 10/10
I'm more of an RPG guy myself, but if you have someone else beside you, it would be hard to find another game comparable to Gunstar Heroes for multiplayer value. It's fast-paced, has great controls, and even managed to put together a halfway interesting storyline (for a shooter). The weapon system lets you create hybrid weapon versions thanks to an innovative system, and the stages keep you on your toes. I don't normally rate non-RPGs that highly, but the multiplayer value forces me to rate this game a 10 out of 10.
Incrediby well-executed. by paulojr_mam on May 20, 2009

Man! This game has incredible features, even for today. Treasure used lots of technical things in this games, lots of them hard to do. Is great visually. They used a comic manga-style in everything, and everything has lots of animation and color and movement. The sound too is spetacular.

But were it shines is in gameplay. Your charater has lots of shots, with the feature of combination of shots and th two types of shots (fixed 8-directional or walking. Your charater can jum, make ground attacks and kicks in the ar, and can kick the frests of the monitor. Nad too you can grap platforms. And grab your enemies and shoot them on the others. Too, has levels that are incredible in conception and execution, changing the gameplay, making it variable.

All that's good is half, okay? But in this case, even it is true, this game is a half greater that we, seeing the magnificence, could imagine. Is not so small. I hoped we could have more games like this.

Best Shooter Ever by blukermit on May 17, 2009

I have fond memories playing this game in my childhood; the explosions, high frame-rate, vivid, saturated colors, epic bosses that just never die; frankly I credit this game with my lifelong fascination with video games and subsequent college major.

On the Easy mode, the game (if you know what you're doing ie played it your whole life) can be beaten in just under two hours, good for casual gaming.

Now, the Normal mode, let alone the Hard mode, are an altogether different story. They are so challenging that even the most hardcore gamer must bow down and pay respects to the brutal stages filled wall to wall with enemies.

The game has infinite replayability because of the differences in difficulty (from easy enough to get through it to so hard you scream... in a good way), the first four stages can be played in any order you choose. At the start of the game you can decide whether you want "fixed" or "free" shot; fixed shot means that when you shoot (and you will be doing plenty of it), your character stops running and you can fire in 8 different directions with the D-pad, whereas free shot will shoot while running - but that can make things tricky now and then.

you can choose between four different gun types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and you can combine two different guns (or the same, if you prefer) together to create a special gun; giving you somehign in the ballpark of 16 different weapons to play with.

And one last thing: I don't know care what games you have played in the past. This game will have the most explosions in a game you will ever witness. It's just beautiful.

Gunstar Heroes has been heralded as one of the greatest games on the Genesis, and indeed, the early ninties. It pushed the Genesis to the limit, showing the world everything the system was capable of.

I'm not sure why, but I never played this when it was released for the Megadrive back in the 90's. I wish I did, this would have been a cartridge I would have got my money's worth from. The game is a side scrolling shootem up with well balanced enemies and responsive controls. You get to pick up weapons and then combine them together to create some unusual stuff (i.e. lightning flamethrower!). The games levels can be played through in different orders extending its replayabitlity value. It was also the first game I know of to include the Boardgame thing that devil may cry stole (and did quite badly). Also its great in 2 player!
WHOA! by Mason Storm on August 19, 2008
Man, this game is non-stop hardcore action! I have just played the first board, and I'm telling you, if you are looking for a fast-paced side-scrolling shooter, then this is the game for you. This version plays flawlessly. Now I know what the reviewers were talking abut when they wrote about this game, because all of it is true. This may be one of the best shooters the Genesis has ever had.
