You are cursed with eternal life as the servant of hell. You must go through different level, each with a very different style and difficulty level to make your way to the final boss, defeating demons and unlocking better weapons along the way. The twist is, since you have eternal life, you cannot get a game over in this game. You just start outside the level and can try again or try to clear a different stage. All in all, this was one of my favorite sega games growing up and although it can get a little aggravating, the gameplay and dark story more than make up for it in this platform game of yesteryear. ^_~ A unique platformer with wonderful artwork. by RabidWeezle on November 17, 2008 Rating: 8/10 As the person before me said, it is a game based around Chakan, a guy that challenged the Reaper and won, became immortal, and now he pretty much fights so he can finally rest in peace. What this game excels at is first, challenging gameplay. It's not easy, even though you never die really, the levels are far from easy. There are many ways to die, the bosses are tough, and it seems there is an unending supply of monsters in the underworld. Graphics: The artwork is very unique. It is a very dark game, and they put forth alot of effort in the art department. It reminds me a little of a few Dark Horse comics. It wasn't really made for the sonic kids in that respect. There's alot of flowing rivers of blood, piles of skulls, and monsters that are quite hideous looking. Gameplay: Chakan can do quite a bit of cool tricks with his swords, and you unlock more stuff as you go kinda like metroid or something. You might want to dig up a manual to find all the cool ways you can slay with chakan. For instance, if you hold down the slash button and press the d-pad in different directions, he will automatically slash that direction without having to hit the slash button again. And he can hit in a full 360 degrees, usefull for things up high. And he does double jumping, and when he does, he spins, in which if you press the slash button he will hold his sword out while he's spinning to do some nice damage. Music: Very creepy music keeps you in the creepy mood. Very nice for the title to go along with the creepy levels. Cons: Not being afraid to die... Yes, this is a con to me, because half the thrill of gaming is getting down to the wire and seeing how long you can last one 1 life. Pros: Very creepy, great sound and visuals for it's day, awesome controls. The Weezle gives it 8/10 One of the most darkest games by Sega Genesis by nenadzn on August 8, 2008 The game follows the tale of Chakan, a warrior who was so confident in his martial abilities that he declared even Death couldn't best him in battle. Of course, Death appeared and challenged Chakan with a proposition. If Chakan could defeat him, he'd be granted eternal life. However, if Chakan was defeated, he'd become Death's eternal servant. The battle raged on for several days and the ultimate victor was very clear. While he defeated Death eventually, he was granted his "reward": “ You are a tactful swordsman, so I will not renege on our wager. I grant you the kiss of eternal life, but, for your arrogance and pride I will temper my gift with this curse. Each nightfall, evils will be shown to you, and the pain of their victims will be your pain. You will never know rest as you wander this world searching to slay the horrors that haunt your sleeping world. You will suffer grievous wounds, but you will not die, and as eternity rolls on, you crave my touch. You face will bear my visage, and your eyes will burn with hellfire. Let it not be said that I am without mercy. There shall be an end to your curse, if all the beasts of the dark are slain, then you may find rest. ” Chakan will be living forever until he destroys the four supernatural evils.
